DeakinPrime focuses on 21st Century L&D

March 1, 2011

Ever wondered what it takes to become a 21st Century Learning & Development (L&D) leader? On February 15, 2011 DeakinPrime Principal Consultant, Val Madsen, world-renowned author and practitioner Charles Jennings and a group of L&D professionals engaged in two workshops focusing on L&D Performance Consulting and Governance.

The L&D Performance Consulting workshop explored the core capabilities for L&D professionals in aligning learning to business goals. The workshop focused on L&D professionals building performance consulting skills to create strong collaborative partnerships with senior business leaders. We outlined the skills and capabilities required for L&D professionals and participants worked through performance consulting models that can be applied to their workplace.

The L&D Governance Workshop explored how leading practice organisations create and maximize a governance framework to align and deliver results to the business. Charles presented real case studies where organisations have implemented governance frameworks to target learning initiatives, make funding and budgeting decisions and partnering with key stakeholders within the business. Participants then worked through DeakinPrime’s Governance benchmarking tool to determine their L&D governance maturity level followed by activities to apply and plan for more effective governance.

Annette Killingsworth, Organisation Capability Manager at Museum Victoria, felt the workshops provided her with “numerous learning opportunities and a developmental experience”. Shannon Pigram, Technical Training Partner of QBE, found that the L&D Governance Workshop was “tangible, real and what was learnt could easily be taken back to the organisation”.
